#184 / Listen To Chuck

"Talk to Chuck" is the public relations slogan used by Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. Apparently, lots of people do "Talk to Chuck," and the slogan may well be a "brilliant approach" to brand development, as one commentator claims

I happened to see a double full page ad for Charles Schwab in a recent edition of The Wall Street Journal. The ad featured a very nice picture of Mr. Schwab, along with a message not too different from what Gar Alperovitz has been saying:

With any endeavor in life, to have success, you have to own it.

Alperovitz points out that our society (and the economy that supports it) is a common creation. If our nation is ultimately going to be successful, the ordinary people who have helped create our society (and economy) are going to have to "own it." Alperovitz' books, America Beyond Capitalism, and What Then Must We Do? provide some thoughts about how we might get from here to there.

In the meantime, though I am not at all sure that Charles Schwab actually meant it that way, his advice, as encapsulated above, is good advice. The ordinary people of the United States do need to "own it."

My suggestion is as follows: Read Alperovitz, and listen to Chuck!

  1. I like your idea of ownership better than Chuck's, frankly.
