#225 / August (And I Don't Mean The Month)

Click here to learn something about August Wilson, who is the person pictured above.  He was a playwright. Heck, click right here to learn even more

This August (the month), I got to see TWO plays by Wilson, "Fences" and "King Hedley II." Both of these plays were packaged as part of programs that announced themselves as dedicated to Shakespeare. I'd put Wilson right up there! I want to recommend the two plays I just named.

If you live in or near Santa Cruz County, consider going to the Santa Cruz Shakespeare website, and trying to get a ticket for "Fences." Click that link to see if you'll be lucky enough to be able to do that. Last chance will be on Friday, August 28th.

I saw "King Hedley II" in Ashland, Oregon, where it was performed by the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. If you are up in that area, or are willing to make the drive (if you're not already up in that area), here's a link that will let you book a ticket. The OSF will be performing "King Hedley II" through October 24th.

I really can't overstate how powerful and moving these two plays are.

They're recommended!

They're worth a nice long drive!!

  1. August Wilson is one of our family's favorite playwrights. The first one we saw "Joe Turner's Come and Gone" was mounted there years ago. Apparently, after Shakespeare, Wilson is the most produced playwright at OSF. We understand your enthusiasm.
