Well, Shakespeare, he’s in the alley
With his pointed shoes and his bells
Speaking to some French girl
Who says she knows me well
And I would send a message
To find out if she’s talked
But the post office has been stolen
And the mailbox is locked
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again
I have always liked Dylan's song, "Stuck Inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again." The song dates back to 1966. One verse is reproduced above, and you can listen to Dylan sing the entire thing, if you'd like to do that, by just clicking this link.
I don't know whether it's correct to label Dylan's song as a vision of a dystopian world, but that could be one way of interpreting what's going on. Considering what is happening in the United States today, the verse above (which has always been my favorite) seems pretty much on target.
Our government, the postal service included, is in the process of being stolen, and here is the question that definitely comes to mind: "Can this really be the end?"
It could be "the end," I think, unless we do something about it!
