#354 / The World Is Changed...

... by average, everyday, ordinary people who have had enough and are willing to step up to do something about it.

Tom Morello, pictured, is probably best known for his tenure with the rock band Rage Against the Machine. In a New York Times opinion piece a month ago, on November 20, 2021, Morello talked about his solo acoustic career as "The Nightwatchman."

Morello's column in The Times was titled, "I Unplugged and Found the Truth." I thought what Morello had to say was quite compelling. He called his decision to start playing acoustic music "like Dylan at Newport in reverse."

The Dylan reference caught my eye, of course, and I decided to hunt down a bit of Morello's acoustic music. Click here for the lyrics to "Road I Must Travel." If you click this link, you may be able to watch Morello play the song, in his official music video. I tried to incorporate that official video into this blog posting, but while I could watch it myself on YouTube, I got a message that I would not be allowed to share the video here.

If you come up dry when you click the link above, I am sorry - perhaps you can hunt down the official video independently. I am providing, as a substitute, a non-official video, below, without the superscript quotations, and the film clips, and without the incredible acoustic ending to the song found in the official version of the video. What I see in this version justifies the idea that Morello has the ambition to "Make America Rage Again."

More even than the music, I liked what Morello had to say about how real change is accomplished. That's his quote, from The Times' column, at the top of this blog posting. His advice is very good advice, indeed. Let me quote it once again:

The world is changed by average, everyday, ordinary people who have had enough and are willing to step up to do something about it.

"Average, everyday, ordinary people" sounds a lot like you and me!
