#217 / An Urgent Need For Structural Reforms

Bernie Sanders wrote an Op Ed column in the August 4, 2021, edition of The Wall Street Journal, calling for "structural reforms." The column was titled, "Why We Need the $3.5 Trillion Reconciliation Package."

This blog posting can be brief, easily summed up in this short quotation from the column (emphasis added):

Three people own more wealth than the bottom 50%, real wages for workers haven’t increased in almost 50 years, and we are facing the existential threat of climate change.

If these things are true (and they are) then we need "Structural Reforms," as Sanders is asserting in his column. I consider this to be a "self-evident" truth.

My suggestion is that we start taking action, seriously, to make fundamental structural reforms that will address these identified issues, and that we stop pretending that we can just talk about it some more, and that we can delay and defer actually making the necessary changes for yet another week, or month, or year.

We can't! The survival of our political system, and the continued habitability of Planet Earth, are ultimately in the balance.
