The Santa Cruz Film Festival is underway, with my son's film airing this evening. Last weekend, as the Festival was just beginning, I went to see some "Santa Cruz Shorts." Among them was a documentary film about a "Reskilling Expo" held recently in downtown Santa Cruz, in Abbott Square and at the Museum of Art and History. Another Expo is coming up soon, on May 20th.
Human beings have created the complex world we now inhabit, but most of us don't have much of an idea of how it was actually done. How, for instance, do we start a fire? What plants in the forest are good to eat? At one time, you knew those skills or you didn't survive. They might be skills worth learning once again (just in case, you know).
