My Dad was a great salesman, and he gave me the following advice:
When the man says "yes," stop talking.Many years later, when I was serving as the Chairperson of the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors, I translated this saying into its local government equivalent, which I used more than once on a long winded speaker:
"Looks to me like you've got five votes. Would you like to try for two?"My Dad's advice is still good advice, in lots of contexts!
