#247 / When To Stop Talking

I don't know why this suddenly came to mind, but I have just remembered something that my Dad told me - and more than once, as I recall.

My Dad was a great salesman, and he gave me the following advice:
When the man says "yes," stop talking.
Many years later, when I was serving as the Chairperson of the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors, I translated this saying into its local government equivalent, which I used more than once on a long winded speaker:
"Looks to me like you've got five votes. Would you like to try for two?"
My Dad's advice is still good advice, in lots of contexts!
