#348 / The Sermon On The Mount

The Sermon On The Mount is found in The Book of Matthew, which is the first book in The New Testament. Father Richard Rohr, who is an American Franciscan priest, has recently published a thoughtful reflection on The Sermon On The Mount. This being a Sunday, if you are in a "religious" frame of mind, you might want to click that last link, to see what Rohr has to say.

Rohr argues that The Sermon On The Mount is nothing less than a radical "revisioning" of The Ten Commandments, and that truly to understand the Sermon on the Mount we need to clarify where it is leading us. It is leading us, he says, to a "total transformation of consciousness, worldview, motivation, goals, and rewards."

It strikes me that our current politics is profoundly in need of such a "total transformation," and that this does mean a transformation of our consciousness, and of our "worldview," and of our "motivation, goals, and rewards."

I am working on that, personally, trying to define for myself, with specifics, what I think that such a transformation requires. In fact, though, to be successful, I am absolutely certain that such a transformation will need to be a "group project."
