#294 / Suicide Crypto

To anyone who reads this blog (all the time or even once in a while), my views on "Crypto" are undoubtedly well-known. I think crypto currencies are a scam, pure and simple, and I have said so on numerous occasions (quite often quoting experts). Click this link to verify my claim. The link will take you to my blog posting of May 26, 2023, which lists numerous other blog postings in which I inveigh against "Crypto."

The Wall Street Journal ran an article on March 31, 2025, that reported on Arnold Haro, who "held up a single bullet to his cellphone camera, loaded it into his Smith & Wesson and spun the chamber." Before he aimed the gun at his head, and pulled the trigger (all on camera), Haro, who was reportedly "in distress," had the following message for those who were watching his livestream on "X," the social media platform formerly owned by Elon Musk:

If I die, I hope you guys turn this into a meme coin,” he told his followers on X, where he was livestreaming.

Haro pulled the trigger. Haro died. And.... The Journal reports:

About three hours later, his dying wish came true. A crypto token named after Haro’s social media handle skyrocketed to more than $2 million in total value, before crashing back to earth. It wasn’t an isolated event. A gold rush ensued, and dozens of other copycat coins sprang up, some branded with stills from the livestream, as the meme coin community tried to profit on Haro’s suicide.

Enough said?

My advice is to stay away from "Crypto," and from "suicide," too. My condolences to all of Haro's family and friends. My hope continues to be that no one who happens to read this blog posting (or who has read any of my past blog postings on this topic) will be tempted to play Russian Roulette with their finances.

Or their lives!
