Don't let my title fool you! My blog posting today is not, as you might naturally think, about Harrison Ford, the actor, who has been called a "cinematic cultural icon" by Wikipedia. That Harrison Ford is pictured at the bottom of this blog posting - just in case there is anyone reading this who may not know who I am talking about, when I mention Harrison Ford the actor. I do want to acknowledge that there are probably vanishing few persons for whom that might be true.
At any rate, today I am inviting you to focus not on the person most immediately suggested by my title, but to begin with the picture at the top. That's a Ford (pickup truck) parked on Harrison Street (actually "Avenue") in my hometown of Santa Cruz, California. It is, in other words, a "Harrison Ford."
I found that truck parked on Harrison Avenue, not far from the intersection of Harrison Avenue with Hammond. This blog posting is an invitation for you to come out and see if you can spot that "Harrison Ford" yourself. This very sincere invitation is consistent with my recent blog posting [#96], in which I extolled the idea of "walking" as something well worth trying out on your own. Please note, I advise "walking" even if you do not own a dog (although the vast majority of people I see walking around on our neighborhood streets are, in fact, accompanied by one species of dog or another).
I enjoy walking, and I do think it is good for me, too, as that earlier blog posting stated. I am particularly fond of Hammond Street (actually Hammond "Avenue"), which is on the Eastside, stubbing itself out on Poplar Street, right across Poplar from the Branciforte Middle School.
Some time ago, on the last day of the year 2020, after endorsing the idea of "walking," I announced my thought that I should try to walk on every street in Santa Cruz. I decided that I could make use of such walks to document some of the lovely trees that grow in my city.
How am I doing? - as you might well ask. Well, I am still mobile, so I am not done yet, but I do have to confess that while I think I have walked every street on the Eastside (and more times than once, for the most part), I have a lot of Westside streets still to conquer. Nonetheless, I have been documenting some of the very beautiful trees I am seeing on my walks, and one of the reasons I particularly like Hammond Street is that my favorite tree, so far, is located on Hammond, right between Poplar and Harrison.
I call my favorite tree "The Hammond Oak." There is a picture of it right below. The Hammond Oak is best appreciated in person, I think, so here's another invitation to "Take A Walk." If you search out Hammond, you will find that it's not very far from the Branciforte Middle School to the Hammond/Harrison intersection, and if you do take a walk out that way, you might run into that Harrison Ford I have pictured at the top of this blog posting. Again, though, just to make sure there are no frustrated expectations when you take a walk out here, you will probably not run into the guy pictured at the bottom)!
PS: I don't watch much television. I didn't see the Superbowl. Thus, when I very recently saw the television advertisement I am linking right here, I thought it was pretty cute - you have to wait for the ending. The advertisement pertains to Harrison Ford, the actor. Even though it's about those vehicles named "Jeep."
