#350 / Defensive Pessimism

I periodically get grief from friends about my supposedly "gloom and doom" approach to life. Thus, a recent article in the Wall Street Journal, titled "The Power of Negative Thinking," really perked me up. The article largely validated my own way of thinking about the state of the world. I recommend it.

Just to be clear, I don't actually think that my world view is "pessimistic." I do believe that the processes we have put into motion in the world we create are threatening not only that world, but even the world of Nature upon which our own world ultimately depends.

The good news? Nothing is "inevitable" in the world we create. Whatever we started, we can stop. We make the laws in our world. We determine the realities.
