When their bones are picked clean and the clean bones gone,
They shall have stars at elbow and foot;
Though they go mad they shall be sane,
Though they sink through the sea they shall rise again;
Though lovers be lost love shall not;
And death shall have no dominion.
Dylan Thomas
And Death Shall Have No Dominion
Fish extinctions are on the rise. According to a recent article, North American fish species will soon be going extinct at twice rate they are now. So say scientists at the United States Geological Survey, in a study that will be published in BioScience this September.
Our human creations can be wondrous, but we are not able to manufacture a salmon, or a trout, a pike, a snapper, or any other fish.
Thus, while Dylan Thomas may be right, I think the wisest counsel is to apply the precautionary principle.
The fewer extinctions we create, the better.
