My trip "around the world" in 2010 took me to Egypt, which means it took me back in time, as well as to a different space from the space with which I am most familiar, in Santa Cruz, California.
That's another benefit of travel: appreciating the ability of human beings to build a world that can persist through time; a human world that is not ephemeral (as most of the world we are currently creating seems more and more to be).
I believe in being serious. The perspectives obtained through travel can bolster our ability to take seriously the human projects we undertake.
Like the pyramids, they may be around for a long time.
