I am not sure that the kind of activism that leads to transformative changes in "our" world (a "political" world, the world we create) can really be taught in an academic setting. Last Sunday, my local newspaper reported on a "Practical Activisism" conference at the University of California at Santa Cruz that at least got students excited about the prospect of a personal commitment to the "activist" life.
Angela Davis, pictured, was definitely on target with her advice:
Activism is a life practice. It's a way of living one's life.
