As can be seen from my picture, above, taken last week, the Parthenon, and in fact the entirety of the Acropolis of Athens, were "under construction," or under reconstruction, rather, on my recent visit. How much more powerful and serene was a visit to the Temple of Aphaea on the island of Aegina, pictured below. Alone in the temple on the mountain top, I was much moved by this place set aside to recognize the realm of the divine, within which our human world is built.
