Pontius Pilate, the Roman Prefect with power over the Province of Judea, does not have a great reputation. He appears to have believed that Jesus was innocent of the charges brought against him, but let him be crucified anyway.
The question for which Pontius Pilate is best known remains pertinent for us:
"What is truth?"
