#29 / Compromise

The purpose of politics, as I see it, is to arrive at a collective decision about what we should do, as we act to address our collective challenges and opportunities, given that we have many individual ideas about what would be the best or right thing to do.

That means that though compromise may be the "result," of the decisions we make, it should never be the "goal."

Being willing to accept a compromise is quite different from thinking that compromise is the objective of our political activity. That kind of politics is "compromised," indeed.
