#13 / Serious

Etymologically speaking, "serious" means "heavy." See, for instance, a book I really like, Eric Partrtidge's Origins: A Short Etymological Dictionary of Modern English. The Urban Dictionary confirms this equivalence. I take this etymological information as a validation of the old hippie usage: "heavy, man!"

No question in my mind but that do we need to "get serious" about the challenges that we confront. I don't think it's true, though that "no fun is allowed!"
