82 / Heroes

We are not only individuals. We are in this life together. We are part of one another, and the world we inhabit is the world we create. Our world is not the result of some impersonal "market mechanism," with individual and unrelated actions adding up to a net result. It is our work. It is the result of what we do. Together. It is a "political" world.

Still, let's not forget how exceptional some individuals can be. How privileged we are to have them with us. Makes us think, sometimes, we could do something of the same. I think that's the point that Carlyle makes, in his book, On Heroes And Hero Worship. It's a book worth taking a look at. And here's a picture worth taking a look at, too.

Shakespeare, he's in the alley....
