#63 / Jurassic Pigeon

A researcher working at the University of California has extracted passenger pigeon DNA from the toe pad of a museum specimen of the now extinct species, and has sequenced it. According to a recent article in The Wall Street Journal, efforts to revive such extinct species are "getting serious." An organization called The Long Now Foundation has initiated a "Revive and Restore" project, the objective of which is to make this kind of restoration of now extinct species possible.

In my view, this is just one more example of our confusion about who we are, as human beings. We are creatures, within the World of Nature. We are not the creators of the Natural World. It is a bad mistake to think that we are, or that we should be.
