#220 / Monoculture

Monoculture is not "natural." The practice represents an effort to industrialize nature, and to make nature subservient to our human desires. It is to suggest that the actual order of reality can be changed, and that the "natural" world can be made to fit within the world that we create.

The truth is just the opposite.

Our world, the world of human creation, is inevitably located within, and is ultimately dependent upon, the world of Nature. That world, the world of Nature, the world we depend on for our existence, is a world that we do not create. It is, however, a world we can enjoy, if we will stop our efforts to reduce it to our own purposes.

The "forest" we see in the image here would never have inspired A Walk In The Woods.
