Words are pretty important. In fact, we wouldn't have a world without words. Not a human world, at least.

Figuring out where words come from is the job of etymology:

noun ( pl. -gies)
the study of the origin of words and the way in which their meanings have changed throughout history.
• the origin of a word and the historical development of its meaning.

That's why I think etymology is so important.
